We have officially opened the first completed phase of our Ringland Regeneration project, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of the Ringland community in Newport.

The celebration, held at the new Ringland Shopping Centre, brought together partners, councillors, Welsh Government representatives, community members and colleagues to recognise the delivery of the first 38 new homes and 12 modern commercial units.

The full programme will ultimately create 158 new homes across four phases, alongside the fully revitalised and relocated shopping centre.

Refreshments were provided by local independent bakery Beth’s Bakes, which is now based in the Ringland Shopping Centre, and were served by work experience volunteers from Newport Youth Academy.

Developed in close partnership with Lovell, Newport City Council, Cardiff Capital Region and Welsh Government, the regeneration is designed to create a more accessible, attractive, and community‑focused local centre, while contributing to the growing need for affordable, sustainable homes across south-east Wales.

Today is a proud moment for Ringland and a proud moment for all of us at Hedyn. This first phase represents much more than new homes and shops. It reflects the voices of local residents, the strength of our partnerships and our shared commitment to creating connected communities where everyone can live well. We are delighted to see this new chapter begin and we are looking forward to continuing the transformation with our partners and the community.

Paula also thanked the children of Milton Primary School, who joined the celebrations by burying a time capsule and reading poems created especially for the occasion.

We are very proud to have once again partnered with Hedyn and handed over the first phase of this exciting regeneration. This large-scale transformation programme is not just delivering new homes but breathing a new lease of life into the Ringland area, turning it into a vibrant community where people can proudly live and work.

The Ringland Regeneration project forms part of Hedyn’s long‑term strategy to deliver safe, warm, affordable and energy‑efficient homes, while working side by side with communities to strengthen local places and create meaningful, lasting impact.
