When Sam Reed started working in housing at Newport City Council in 2003, becoming a construction Project Manager wasn’t necessarily part of the plan.
More than 20 years later, after building experience across housing management, community regeneration and development, Sam has taken the next step in her career, becoming a Project Manager at Hedyn.
How it started
Sam began her career working closely with residents and communities, listening to their experiences, solving problems and making sure people felt heard. That early experience continues to shape the way she approaches development today.
However technical a project becomes, you have to remember that you’re creating someone’s home. My background in housing helps me look at things from the resident’s point of view.

How it’s going
Throughout her career, Sam has continued to learn and develop her skills. Alongside a degree in Law and Sociology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Housing, she recently completed an HNC in Construction and the Built Environment. The qualification has helped Sam develop the technical knowledge to complement more than two decades of experience in housing and community-focused roles.
Today, she helps bring new-build and regeneration projects from initial plans through to the delivery of homes people can be proud of. Working alongside colleagues, contractors and partners, Sam helps balance quality, safety, value and the needs of future residents.
Her promotion recognises not only her experience and commitment, but also her determination to keep learning and take her career in a new direction.
Sam’s journey is a great example of how careers don’t always follow a straight line. The experience and perspective gained in one area of housing can become a real strength in another and sometimes open the door to opportunities you never expected.
Congratulations, Sam!
