Asbestos is a material that was commonly used in building homes before the late 1990s. Some of our homes may contain asbestos, but this is usually not a cause for concern.
Asbestos is safe when it is in good condition and left undisturbed. It only becomes a risk if it is damaged or disturbed, which can release fibres into the air.
Planning work in your home
If you’re thinking about making changes to your home, such as drilling, fitting new fixtures or carrying out DIY work, please contact us before you start. We can check our records and advise whether asbestos may be present.
When we carry out repairs or improvements in your home, we use asbestos information and follow strict safety procedures to protect you, your household and our colleagues.
Please remember that you must get permission before making alterations to your home. If work is carried out without our approval, you may be responsible for any costs involved.
Common questions
Most decorating work is safe, but if you’re unsure whether your plans could affect materials containing asbestos, contact us and we’ll be happy to advise.
Contact us straight away. Do not try to repair, sweep up or vacuum the material yourself, as this could release fibres into the air.
If asbestos-containing materials are undamaged and in good condition, they are safe to remain in your home.
