Fly-tipping

We all want to feel proud of where we live. Fly-tipping can have a big impact on our communities, making spaces feel unsafe, uncared for, and less enjoyable for everyone.

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish on land that isn’t authorised to receive it. It looks unpleasant, but it can also harm the environment and attract unwanted pests.

Our approach

Keeping our communities clean is a shared responsibility. We will:

  • respond quickly when fly-tipping is reported in our areas
  • work with local councils and partners to remove waste safely
  • take action to prevent repeat issues
  • support our residents with access to the right information and services

How you can help

We can all do our bit to prevent fly-tipping. You can help by:

  • using the correct waste and recycling services provided by your local council
  • arranging bulky waste collections instead of leaving items outside
  • not adding to existing piles of dumped rubbish
  • reporting fly-tipping as soon as you see it

Report fly-tipping

Small actions can make a big difference to your community. If you see fly-tipping, please let us know.

Depending on the situation, we may work with your local council, who are responsible for investigating and enforcing against illegal dumping of rubbish.

Need to get rid of something?

If you have large or unwanted items, there are safe and legal ways to dispose of them:

  • book a bulky waste collection with your local council
  • take items to a recycling centre
  • donate items that are still in good condition
  • use licensed waste carriers

Leaving items outside without arranging collection can be classed as fly-tipping.
